COMPACT Project: University of Latvia organizes symposium on disinformation and security online

On 10.12.2019 the University of Latvia, Faculty of Social Sciences (Lauvas iela 4, Riga) organizes a symposium, part of COMPACT Project, Horizon 2020 series of awareness-raising events in different European cities.

Keynote speaker will be Sebastian Bay, Senior Expert at the Technical and Scientific Development Branch of the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence in Riga, Latvia. He has a background at the Counter Influence Unit of the Swedish Civil Contingency Agency where he was the project manager for the preparations undertaken to protect the Swedish general elections in 2018. Currently Sebastian Bay is the manager of a research project on the malicious use of social media.

Other speakers are Klinta Ločmele, media literacy researcher, who until November 2019 worked as a media policy advisor and coordinator in the Ministry of Culture and  Velta Skolmeistare, researcher working at the University of Latvia, Faculty of Social Sciences.

COMPACT project will be represented by  Dr. Andrej Skolkay, School of Communication and Media, Slovakia and Oles Kulchytskyy, Agency of European Innovations, Ukraine. (the last two pending confirmation)

Discussions will focus on disinformation online and more particularly on issues such as how vulnerable we actually are in the digital environment and can media literacy save us from disinformation. Working language will be English.
